Monday, April 8th, 2024 was an experience of a lifetime especially in Rockwall, Texas, where despite some pesky clouds, we were still able to come away some beautiful images of each phase of the solar eclipse. This one of a kind composite photo comes beautifully framed and ready to hang and admire as you relive that momentous event.
How is this made?
Compositing is an artistic technique that involves blending multiple photographs into a single image. For this project, my aim was to capture the various phases of the eclipse, collecting as many stages as possible. After photographing the event, I carefully selected images that best matched their symmetric counterparts and edited each to ensure consistency between each photo. From there, I brought in the four photos that constitute the center images. The three photos of the ‘diamond ring’ effect were taken with a wide angle lens to incorporate more of the moody Texas sky and the center photo of totality was taken with a long, telephoto lens to maximize clarity and resolution. Blended together, this composite represents a once-in-a-lifetime event and a personally fulfilling project.
